Chris Roodbeen studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. He has worked as an illustrator for advertising agencies, as well as magazines like Margriet and Elsevier (political cartoons). He has published comic strips in children's magazines Okki, Jippo and Taptoe and provided illustrations for educational publications (Wolters-Noordhoff) and the papers Rotterdamsch Nieuwsblad, Haagsche Courant and De Telegraaf.

He drew six stories of the comic series 'Ahmed' in the Shell magazine Olidin between 1958 and 1961. This was followed by 'De Roemrijke Avonturen van Papom' in 1962-63. Also for Olidin, Roodbeen illustrated short historical stories and gag strips.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
