Piet Schreuders is an independent graphic designer based in Amsterdam. His specialties include magazines, books, cds, cartography and rephotography of locations from classic films and Beatles press photos. He is also an expert in pop culture archeology and classic typefaces.

He was born Pieter Ewoud Schreuders in Rotterdam and started out as a comic author under several pseudonyms in the first half of the 1970s. His best known strip was his parody on Hergé's 'Quick & Flupke' called 'De Guitenstreken van Pim en Propke'. It was published in Aloha (1972), Inkt (1972-1974) and Tante Leny Presenteert (1977). For Aloha, he also made the comics 'De Boys met Max', 'De Avonturen van Frits Strik' and 'Jan Tit' (with Aart Clerkx). Schreuders and Clerkx were also largely repsonsible for the design of Hitweek and Aloha, and for the weekly back page of De Nieuwe Linie newspaper ('Jan Tit's Progressief Journaal').

He also started self-publishing hand-drawn, machine-typed and photocopied zines in this period. He is editor and designer of De Poezenkrant (a newsletter about cats, since 1974) and FURORE (since 1975). Contributors to these magazines were Herwolt van Doornen and Aart Clerkx.

Schreuders has been working as a freelance graphic designer since 1976. He has worked extensively for broadcasting organization VPRO, and was the art director of the weekly media magazine VPRO Gids from 1998 until 2013 (he had been designing covers for the publication since 1983). He has also made designs for the books, dvd's and TV programs of Van Kooten & De Bie (including De Juinensche Courant) and Wim T. Schippers.

He wrote a critical book about design called 'Lay In, Lay Out'. He has also made designs for the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Schreuders has made radioprograms like 'Vrije Geluiden' and 'Instituut Schreuders' for the VPRO. He has been working together with designer and musician Sonja van Hamel since 2003.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
