Eric Shanower was born in Key West, Florida in 1963. He grew up in Hawaii, California, Madison, Vancouver, Washington and Cuba. He went to college in California and attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in New Jersey, where he graduated in 1984. In 1986, he launched the comic series 'The Enchanted Apples of Oz'. This series ended in 1991, and Shanower started researching the Age of Bronze, resulting in a comics retelling of the Trojan War. He founded Hungry Tiger Press with his partner David Maxine, and started publishing 'Age of Bronze' in 1998. 'A Thousand Ships', a collection of this series, appeared in 2003. Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over
12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
