Donald Duck, by Frank Smith

Frank Smith worked in animation during the 1950s and 1960s. He cooperated on among others 'Mr Magoo, 'Gerald McBoing Boing' and 'A Boy Named Charlie Brown'. He began working for the comic department of the Disney Studios in the 1970s. Between 1973 and 1976, he drew 'Donald Duck' stories for foreign Disney publications. He took over the 'Donald Duck' newspaper strip from Frank Grundeen in 1976, and continued it until 1986. He also did a newspaper strip based on W.C. Fields between 1982 and 1986, and art on Hanna-Barbera comic books like 'Laff-a-Lympics' and 'Great Grape Ape' in 1978-1979.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
