Zega by Jose Manuel Soares

José Manuel Soares is a Portuguese painter who has also made several comics. Born in Alentejo, Soares has published in many comic magazines and periodicals. He began a collaboration with Diabrete magazine in 1950, and subsequently drew comics for the children's supplement of the paper Diário do Norte. He continued his career in Cavaleiro Andante, drawing 'A Ala dos Namorados' and 'De Angola à Contracosta', two stories collected in a book by the publishing house Futura in 1985. Soares additionally contributed to Lusitas, Mundo de Aventuras, Fagulha, and the Brazilian publishing house EBAL. Soares has also worked in advertising, and he has his own gallery in Leiria.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
