Jaimito by Jose Soriano Izquierdo

José Soriano Izquierdo worked at Publishing House Valenciana, first as an artist, then also as an editor. He began his career in the 1930s, drawig for publications like KKO, TBO and Niños, as well as the Valencian press. During the Spanish Civil War, he drew for Verdad, edited Trincheras and contributed to military papers. Among his early comic serials were 'Aventuras de Mister Bluff', 'Cosas de risa y embrollo de Tarugo y Don Meollo' and 'Siempre de Campeonato con Doña Hincha y Silbato'. After this period, he joined editor Juan Puerto Vañó and reformed Editora Valenciana. His artistic contributions to the publisher's magazines were only occasional at this second stage. Soriano Izquierdo co-founded the long lived Valenciana magazine Jaimito and created its eponymous character. He was succeeded by Karpa, Liceras, Frejo, Nin and Castillo in the 'Jaimito' strip, with Karpa as the final artist.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
