Noul Nastratin by Done Stan

Done Stan is a Romanian illustrator, who works in the fields of children's book illustration, posters, engraving and theatrical scenery. Born in Giurgiu, he was educated at the graphics department of the Nicolae Grigoresc Institute of Arts in Bucharest. He has been working as an illustrator since his studies, and his work is characterized by its fantasy and mystery elements. He has illustrated thousands of books by Romanian and foreign authors, from Molière to Dostoevsky, but mainly ones aimed at children.

Stan has been chief editor and art director with publishers like Tineretului, Ion Creanga, Cartea Romaneasca and Minerva between 1964 and 1991. It wasn't until the 1990s that he first turned to comic art, with the Anton Pann adaptation 'Noul Nastratin' in cooperation with Petre Ghelmez for magazine Ariel (1993).

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
