George Ignace Debels was a pioneer in Dutch animation, creating the first animated movie in Holland in 1915/16. Using the name Mac Djorski, he founded his own animation studios in the 1920s. He made advertising films like 'Ko de Koe' for dairy producer Friesche Vlag, and also created the movie 'The March of the Animals' in 1925.

George Debels also wrote and drew children's books, such as 'Pepipo's Wonderlijke Reizen' and the text strips 'Pam's Wonderlijke Avonturen', 'Pam bij de Maanapen' and 'Loekie Langoor' in the 1930s and 1940s. For these books he used other pseudonyms like Joe Stan or Joe Sten, most likely derived from his wife's name Johanna Stenacker.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
