Marvin Stein studied at the Pratt Institute and worked as a comic book artist from the 1940s throughout the 1960s. He did the feature 'Captain Valiant' for Croyden from 1944-46 and cartoon and funny animal art for Timely in the same period, while also inking National's 'Superboy'. In the 1940s he also did the syndicated 'Funnyman' feature for Bell Syndicate (1948-49).

In the 1950s he was present at Feature Comics with 'American Eagle', 'Black Magic', 'Justice Traps The Guilty' and 'Lazo Kid' and at Atlas with romance, mystery and western stories. Stein illustrated the syndicated 'Mc Gurk's Mog' with Bud Wexler for New York Newsday in 1965-68, and additionally did art on Archie Comics and Western's 'The Twilight Zone'. He also worked as a storyboard artist in animation and illustrated schoolbooks for Barnell Loft in the 1970s and 1980s.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
