Steve Michiels, who presents his work under his first name, studied Graphics in Brussels and Gent. As a graduation project, in 1992, he produced a booklet titled 'Ha-A-Ai, Lief en Leed', which won him an award. In 1993, he made his debut in the newspaper De Morgen. A collection of his work, 'Dagelijkse Pret', appeared in 1997. After this date, he changed his working method, and began using a drawing tablet and mousepen. In 1999, he made his debut on the World Wide Web with his site, All About Steve.
