Histoires de Jésus

Călin Stoicănescu was one of the prizewinners of the comics contest held by magazines Cutezătorii and Pif Gadget in 1970. However, it took him until 1988 to see his first comic published in the annual Vacanţa Cutezătorilor, due to censorship. He has published a great many comics since the fall of communism in 1989. Stoicănescu made historical, western, detective and science-fiction stories for children's supplements like Strip Top and Mini Azi. These included a comic adaptation of Jules Verne's 'Kéraban the Inflexible' in 1998.

Stoianescu was also the first Romanian author to make Christian comics. Some of his stories have also been translated to French and Flemish and published in the Belgian magazines Coccinelle and Gabriel, as well as Temps Tot in Canada. The Belgian CriaBD association has published three book of his 'Histoires de Jésus' between 2001 and 2004. The artist has participated in several comics festivals in Belgium, Luxembourg and France since 2001. His pages were exhibited at the Sacré-Coeur Basilica in Paris and the Cathedral of Saint Michel in Brussels.
