Spy Smasher, by Marc Swayze

Marcus Desha Swayze was an American comic book artist during the 1940s and 1950s. He is best known for his writing and pencil work on Fawcett's 'Captain Marvel'. He co-created the character of 'Mary Marvel' with Otto Binder, and also did various covers for Whiz Comics and Captain Marvel Adventures. After leaving his military service in 1944, he continued to work for Fawcett on a freelance basis. He drew the 'Phantom Eagle' in Wow Comics and contributed to romance titles like Sweethearts and Life Story.

He assisted Russell Keaton and eventually took over Keaton's 'Flyin' Jenny' strip for Bell Syndicate from 1943 to 1946. Upon the disappearance of Fawcett, Swayze did his final comic book art for Charlton until the mid-1950s. In addition, Swayze has been in combos and dance bands, and has taken on oil painting, from the 1930s through the 1990s. He had a column under the title 'We Didn't Know It Was the Golden Age!' in the comics information magazine Alter Ego from 1996 until his death in 2012.
