Richard Thompson is an American cartoonist from Arlington, Virginia, known for his clever humorous newspaper comic strip 'Cul de Sac'. He was was an illustrator with The Washington Post before he began his feature about the daily life of pre-school girl Alice in the Washington Post Magazine. By 2007, 'Cul de Sac' was syndicated to more than 70 newspapers, and is now running as both a daily and Sunday feature through the Universal Press Syndicate. Several book collections have been published since 2008.

Thompson also makes the weekly cartoon series 'Richard's Poor Almanac' for the Post's Syle section. His cartoon dealing George W. Bush's inauguration, featuring the poem 'Make The Pie Highter', has gone viral and has been set to music several times. Thompson is additionally active as an illustration for such publications as U.S. News & World Report, The New Yorker, Air & Space/Smithsonian, National Geographic and The Atlantic Monthly.

Richard Thompson was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2009, and his comic has lend it's name to Team Cul de Sac, a fundraising effort to raise money for and awareness about PD Parkinson's disease.
