Manga art by Yoshihiro Togashi

Yoshihiro Togashi was born in Shinjo, Yamagata, and his talent was first recognized by the publisher Shueisha. He received the Tezuka Award for his 1986 manga 'Buttobi Straight'. His began his professional career shortly afterwards. His early work for Shueisha includes 'Okami Nante Kowakunai!', a collection of short comedies previously published in Weekly Shônen Jump. Between 1989 and 1990 he published his sexy romance serial 'Ten de Shôwaru Cupid'.

He gained fame with his occult series 'YuYu Hakusho' ('Poltergeist Report'), that appeared from 1990 to 1994 and was also adapted into an anime series. His next serial was the science-fiction manga 'Level E' (1995-97). In 1998 he began his major action series 'Hunter x Hunter'.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
