Comic art by Roman Tolici

Toman Tolici is a Moldovan artist with work consisting of paintings, graphics, comics, photos, literature, poetry and advertising projects. He was born in Chișinău, Moldova, in 1974 and moved to Romania in 1990. He graduated from the Bucharest Arts Academy in 1998 with a degree in graphic art.

He was one of the original contributors to 2000 PLUS, a comics magazine founded by the French-Romanian Sonny Perseil. From scripts by Perseil, Tolici drew the comic series 'Alex' between 1997 and 1999. With additional drawings by Ciubi, a book collection called 'Alex la Paris' was published. It won the Sandu Florea Trophy during the Craïova Comics Festival in 2003. Starting in 1999, Tolici was present in Domnul Goe with two stories of 'Tase și Mănase', that were scripted by Bogdan Naumovici.

He has ventured into underground comix since 2000 with contributions to Hardcomix anthologies. Hardcomix also released his solo comic book 'Aaargh!!'. He is the first Romanian artist to have his work published in Slovenia, appearing in editions of the international anthologies Stripburek and Warburger.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
