
El conventillo de Don Nicola
Hector Locuratolo Torino was an Argentine artist with a bohemian lifestyle. He started his career in the 1930s with comic series like 'Don Marmeto Detective' (1935) and 'Exculapio Sandoval' (1936) in El Suplemento. His best known creation is 'El conventillo de Don Nicola', a funny series about the owner of a boarding house. Starting in 1937, the series ran for several years in !Aquí está! magazine.


Torino went on to create his own company, Ediciones Torino, in the 1950s. He edited about 14 simultaneous magazines during a period of 10 years, including Don Nicola's own title, as well spin-offs starring the series other colorful characters, such as 'Pascualín', 'Barrabás', 'Pepinucho' and 'Coliflor'. Torino was additionally a contributor to El Trencito magazine, with covers, cartoons and features like 'Mudini'.
