Roberto Totaro

Roberto Totaro was born in Belluno, and he studied at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts. He began his career working in the advertising field, before doing his first comic assigments for Mondadori (Disney's Topolino) and Rolf Kauka (Fix und Foxi) in Germany. In the early 1980s he worked as as an inker in the studio of Luciano Gatto, before becoming an illustrator of 'Pif le Chien' for the French magazine Pif Gadget for eight years.

When Totaro left Pif Gadget, he began working for the Italian satirical magazine Comix in 1992, creating 'I Tecnocrati'. The comic, that appeared in the magazine alongside the work of Quino and Mordillo, was Totaro's personal breakthrough and was also adapted for television. Also for Comix, Totari additionally created 'I Grandi Appuntamenti Scientifici di Piero Angelo' and 'Nirvana'. Of the latter, several book collections were published.

In the 1990s, Totaro's work also appeared in Il Corriere dei Piccoli, Gulp, 44 Gatti, Risate in Tasca, Airone and, Airone Junior. In the late 1990s he was artistic director of the magazine Ecofumetti.
