Umigumo (Sea Spider), by Yuko Tsuno (2002)

Yuko Tsuno made her debut with 'Reizôko' ('Refrigerator') in the Japanese underground magazine Garo in 1986. Her work immediately caught the eye of major manga magazines, who attempted to make her offers she could not refuse. Yet she refused, preferring to be able to work for herself and at her own pace. She lives in Fukuyama, far away from Tokyo, the center of publications, and earns a living working in a graphic design studio.

Her manga stories include 'Derishasu' ('Delicious', 1988), 'Ame Miya Yuki Kohri' ('Rain, Princess, Snow, Ice', 1994) and 'Rinpunyaku' ('Powdered Fish Scale Medicine', 2000). Her work 'Swing Shell', has been translated into English and was published in 'Secret Comics Japan', a collection of Japanese underground comics.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
