Katja Tukiainen was born in Pori and studied at the University of Art and Design from 1990 until 1996. She was an exchange student at the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice in 1994-1995. Tukiainen is active in varying artistic fields, and has been published from 1992. Government backing gave her the opportunity to work in comics fulltime for a period of three years. Her paintings and comics have been in several exhibitions. She has created several short stories, such as 'Tyttöjen leikit' ('Girls Plays', 1997), 'Tyttö ja mummo' ('Girl and Granny', 1998), 'Jos olisin prinsessa' ('If I were a princess', 1999) and 'Varjeltava kylmältä' ('Protect from Cold', 2000). In 2002, she published 'Postia Intiasta', a comic book about her travels in India.
