Marko Turunen, who studied sculpting, is a Finnish comic artist specialized in sketching a surreal world in which science-fiction clichés blend in easily with pop culture, violent superheroes and everyday tasks.
In 'Tiskipäiväkirja' ('The Dishwashing Diary’, 2002) Turunen observed daily life by illustrating the dishes that had to be washed every day. 'Kuolema kulkee kintereillä' ('Death Walks on its Hind Legs', 2003) maps out the everyday existence of superheroes living in a flat on a housing estate. 'Pohja' ('The Ground', 2003) is about a childhood in which everything is odd. 'Lihat puntarissa' ('Flesh on the Line', 2007) features newspaper clippings from his father's career as a wrestler.
