Buddha on the road, by Colin Upton
Buddha on the Road #2 (1996)

Colin Upton was born in Winnipeg, but spent most of his childhood in West Vancouver. He was one of the most notable artists of the Canadian small-press movement between 1985 to 1988. He published dozens of mini-comics, many of which portrayed his encounters with Vancouver street people and other marginal characters.

In 1990, he released the autobiographical comic 'Big Thing', that was soon picked up by Fantagraphics Books. When Fantagraphics cancelled the titles after four issues, Upton returned to mini-comics and continued to do an occasional story for anthologies. In 1995 Upton began 'Buddha on the Road', an anti-religious adventure epic of which six issues appeared.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
