Davy Crockett, by John Ushler

John Ushler was an artist of adventure and western strips for Dell/Western Publishing from 1952 to 1962. He illustrated such Disney comics as 'Treasure Island', 'Davy Crockett', 'The Great Locomotive Chase', 'Elfego Baca', 'Texas John Slaughter', 'The Swamp Fox', 'Zorro' and 'Swiss Family Robinson'. In addition to his Disney comics, he did 'Little Beaver', 'Dale Evans', 'Roy Rogers', 'Rex Allen', 'Buffalo Bill jr.', 'Tarzan', 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' and 'Huckleberry Finn.

Disney's Treasury of Classic Tales (Winnie the Pooh)

After his work at Western, he became a staff artist at the Disney Comic Strip Department until 1972. Ushler produced such syndicated strips as the 'Disney's Treasury of Classic Tales' and 'Uncle Remus' Sunday pages, as well as the daily 'Scamp', 'Bo Bummel', 'Roy Rogers' and 'Pier 19' strips.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
