Patrick Van Oppen was born in Genk. He has been drawing comics since his early childhood. In addition to several illustration assignments, he has illustrated albums like 'Op Weg met Jan Berchmans' and 'Schattenjacht in het Kleinste Stadje ter Wereld' for Éditions Coccinelle, and 'De Vijfde Man' for De Striep/Brunet. In the beginning of his career, he assisted Merho on the 'Kiekeboe' album 'De Methode Matopeh'. For Standaard Uitgeverij, he illustrates the comic series based on the work of novelist Pieter Aspe. In 2008 he began the comic series 'Tommeke' with Ivan Claeys, about the younger years of cyclist Tom Boonen.
