Eduardo Vañó was the first artist of the famous Spanish detective series 'Roberto Alcazar y Pedrín'. Born in Bocairent, near Valencia, he studied fine arts, and began his career at the publishing house Valenciana in the early 1930s. There, he illustrated several novels, as well as comic book serials like 'Bob Tayler, el Justiciero' and 'Carlos Ray, Corazón de Acero'.

Together with scriptwriter Juan Puerto, he began 'Roberto Alcazar y Pedrín' in 1940. The series became one of the most famous Spanish comics, and ran until 1976. The series was characterized by its action and the creative use of exclamations and sound effects. Also for Valenciana, Vañó created the character 'Milton El Corsario' in 1957. From the late 1950s, Vañó was assisted by his sons Vicente and Eduardo Vañó Ibarra.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
