Erik Varekamp studied illustration at the Rietveld Academy for four years, but he did not finish his formal education. In 1984 he began his ten-year tenure as an assistant to Gerrit de Jager. Together, they made the daily comic 'S.O.S.' for Algemeen Dagblad. Currently, Varekamp makes comics and illustrations for several employers. Together with writer Mick Peet he created the new series 'Agent Orange', about Prince Bernard, father of Dutch Queen Beatrix. Using a mixture of fact, rumors and interpretations, they paint a picture of Bernards early years in Nazi-Germany.
