Het Sprekende Geweer, by Willy Verschelde

Willy Verschelde was born in Zulte, and studied at the Academy of Ghent. Between 1960 and 1973, he worked closely with animator Raoul Servais, cooperating with all the productions of the time. From 1970 to 1973, he worked at Pen-Film, also with Servais. Afterwards, he focused on advertising work, illustrations and comics.

He was a freelance journalist for art and film magazines like Vlaanderen and VBA-Flash. He also published in De Zondag. In 1969, he made a comic album with writer Julien van Remoortere, called 'Het Sprekende Geweer', published by Van In. He illustrated for Patskrant. In 1981, he made some gags with 'Piet Penseel' for Robbedoes.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
