Michiel van de Vijver

After graduating from the Haarlem Business School, there was just one thing Michiel van de Vijver wanted to do: make comics. He works on a freelance basis for different media, including two Dutch daily newspapers and comic magazine De Stripper. Together with four other artists - Jan Dirk Barreveld, Rob Derks, René Leisink and Koert Stavenuiter - he started the graphic studio Noodweer in Nijmegen in early 2001. There, the artists can fully commit themselves to making comics, cartoons, illustrations, and comic scripts.

Specialized in children's comics Van de Vijver does assignments for among others Zwijsen, Hallmark and Pixillion. For the free newspaper Metro, he has done the weekly comic 'Max' and he was a regular contributor to the amateur comics magazine De Stripper since 1996. For the magazine Z@pp & Zo, he created the character 'Charlie'. After the disappearance of the magazine, the strip was continued in Roetsj under the name 'Joep'. Van de Vijver also works for the Jan Kruis studio at Sanoma Uitgevers since 2004. Together with René Leisink, he has made the album 'Waterproef'.
