Berend Vonk graduated from the College of Art in Maastricht, and began his career in the underground scene in 1978. In 1982, he created the strip 'Pastorale 83', in which he made clear statements about his political ideas. Vonk's strips can be found in the magazines Bakkes, Posse, Incognito and Zone 5300. His cartoons appear in among others Algemeen Dagblad, Adformatie, VPRO Gids and Trouw. He has collected his comics in albums like 'In de val Jeanette' (1995), 'Eens' (1998) and 'Avonturen, Avonturen' (2008). Besides drawing comics, Vonk works as an illustrator, painter, and as singer in the band De Sufgerukte Wallies. His illustrations have appeared in Trouw, Algemeen Dagblad, Adformatie, VPRO Gids, Boekblad, De Journalist and Financieel Dagblad.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
