Jimmie Angel story by Jan-Willem de Vries
Truth or dare: the Jimmie Angel story

Jan-Willem de Vries studied at the Groningen Art Academy between 1993 and 1997. He then worked as a comic artist and illustrator for several years, before devoting most of his time to filmmaking from 2004 onwards. His film 'Niks voor Jip' was screened in the Images cinema and Groningen in 2005 and got good reviews.

In 2006 and 2007 he made the daily comic strip 'Zapklaar' together with Eric Snelleman and Jan Krol for papers like Leidsche Courant and Noordhollands Dagblad. De Vries' work was also featured in anthologies like Gr'Omnibus (2006) and the French Comix 2000 by L'Association. In 2011 he published his first comic book (in english), 'Truth or dare: the Jimmie Angel Story'. The story, written and painted by De Vries, tells the true story of the pilot that discovered the world's largest waterfall in Venezuela in 1933.

De Vries has written and compiled a lengthy overview book about the animation film production of the Toonder Studio's, called 'De Toonder Animatiefilms'. It was published by Silvester in April 2012.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
