Hibou

Marijn van der Waa, who signs with simply Waa, started out studying painting at Art School, and then moved into illustrating for various Dutch magazines. He has published in Alternatieve Konsumenten Bond, TV Studio, Mikro Gids and eventually worked in animation.

He collaborated on a theatre project called the 'Incredible Thinking Man', produced some talkshows and worked as art director for a theatre/animation production called 'Amleth'. He worked as a Flash animator for BigMagic for two years and then turned freelance. He is the editor of the website of Zone 5300, the magazine for which he also makes the comic strip 'Hibou'. He is also web editor for the Dutch public broadcaster Buddhist Broadcast Foundation.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
