Marina Walentynowicz was a Polish artist and architect, as well as one of the first Polish comic artists. Born in Saint Petersburg, she studied architecture in Warshaw. Together with writer Kornel Makuszynski, she created the popular character 'Koziolek Matolek' in 1933. Makuszynski and Walentynowicz told the stories of Matolek the goat stories in images with texts in rhymme underneath them. Another creation by the duo was the monkey 'Malpha Fiki Miki' in 1936.
