Roel Dijkstra by Keith Watson
Roel Dijkstra (Eppo #33, 1985)

Keith Watson joined Frank Hampson's studios in the late 1950s. Here he learned the finer points of the comic profession, working on the 'Dan Dare' series that appeared in Eagle. When the studios were closed, he partially took over this series. In the 1960s, he left Eagle and started the futuristic 'Captain Condor' series in Lion. In 1962, he returned to Eagle and the 'Dan Dare' comic again for a period of four years. Watson intensified his production in the late 1960s with 'The Space Girls' for Tina, and comic adaptations of 'The Thunderbirds' and 'Joe 90'. He also started the series 'Crossbow', 'Captain Scarlett' and 'Battle of the Planets'. In the late 1970s, Keith Watson started working for the Dutch market, taking over the 'Roel Dijkstra' comic from Andries Brandt and Jan Steeman.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
