Cees van de Weert is mostly known for his work at the legendary Marten Toonder Studios. He was a school teacher before he joined the Studios during its early years in 1942. While at first he did many types of drawing jobs for the studio, he later focused on creating backgrounds for the cartoons, and eventually became chief of the drawing studio of the comic production. For the Dutch magazine Tom Poes Weekblad he created the series 'Marco Polo', which ran from 1948 to 1949. This comic was continued halfway by Gerard van Straaten. Eventually, Cees van de Weert continued his career as a graphic designer in the toy production field. He passed away in Amsterdam in 1981.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over
12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop.
However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
