Born and raised in west Texas, Sam White has drawn cartoons for as long as he could hold a pencil. His favorite influences were Snoopy and baseball, so it was only natural that his first strip ('Cottage & CO', which ran in several weekly papers from 1992-2001) wouldfocus on a hapless minor league baseball player (though with a Far Sidian twist). Over the years, Burt's basset hound, Phydeaux, became a larger and larger part of the strip until, in 2001, the humans were phased out of the strip and the focus shifted to animals, especially the turtle Tuttle, whose pursuit of a buck leads him to serve as the community doctor, lawyer, writer and raconteur. Through the years of the strip, Sam supported himself in a variety of jobs, including software professional, graphic artist, preacher, and florist. He is married, has two sons, and lives in Lawton, OK. 'Tuttle's' appears in both daily and weekly newspapers.
