Wid N.S., pseudonym of Wida Nara Soma, was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 1938. He did not graduate from high school and has never had any official art education. His taste - and talent - for drawing brought him to become a comic artist in 1968. His first comic was paid 7500 Rupiah, but later in the 1970s he was paid 50.000 Rupiah for the same number of pages. He was also very fond of science fiction.

Godam, a character he created, made people regard Wid as an expert in this rarely-produced comics theme. He also made silat (Indonesian martial arts) comics and comics for a Catholic publisher, Kanisius: a teenage romance that contained morality and of high quality (Fadjar), printed in colors with the offset technique.

Wid N.S. also illustrated an educational comic, 'Merebut Kota Perjuangan', about the Indonesian struggle for independency from Dutch occupation in 1948. The cover of the first version was considered too hostile against Holland (the publication was in 1984!), and a second version showed more neutral depictions.
