
Wim van Wieringen, whose full name was Wim de Mooij van Wieringen, was a Dutch cartoonist and photographer. He started his career at the famous Dutch Marten Toonder Studios. He did his first work for the originally illegal paper Metro.

For Tom Poes Weekblad, the magazine published by the studio, he created his best known character 'Simpelman' (1947), that later appeared in newspaper Het Parool from 1962 to 1968. Van Wiereingen's silent strip was also syndicated by Swan Features to international newspapers such as France-Soir in France.

He also worked for radical leftist magazine 'De Vlam'. Later, Van Wieringen was employed at the magazine De Groene Amsterdammer. Wim van Wieringen has lived in several Dutch cities, but also in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy (1956-1965) and New York (1980s), where he made drawings for the Jewish Week.

He was also a photographer. His final work, an illustrated booklet of his poems, appeared in 1995. On 3 July, 1999, Wim van Wieringen passed away at the age of 83.
