Amadee Wohlschlaeger was an American cartoonist, who drew the 'Weatherbird' newspaper feature for over 50 years. He was a sports cartoonist with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, when he took over the frontpage feature that accompanied the daily weather report, following the death of the former artist, S. Carlisle Martin. He drew the birds from 1932 until his retirement in 1981. Wohlschlaeger was succeeded by Albert Schweitzer. The current artist is Dan Martin.

From 10 April 1946 to 11 October 1953 he also had a Sunday comic in the paper called 'Herkimer'. The artist celebrated his 100th birthday at the Mari de Villa Retirement Community in Town & Country in 2011. He passed away on 24 June 2014, at the age of 102.

Series and books by Amadee Wohlschlaeger in stock in the Lambiek Webshop:

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
