Jommeke by Edwin Wouters
Jommeke - Choco ontvoerd

Edwin Wouters, a comic artist from Wetteren, published his first comics in 't Kapoentje, following a contest held by the magazine in the mid 1960s. His comics 'Mini-Jul', 'Jim Baby' and 'Kenny en Bert' were published in Ohee. He was the first assistant of Jef Nys on the newspaper comic 'Jommeke' for Het Volk. His first assignment was finishing the story 'Neuzen bij de Vleet' when Nys had health problems in 1968.

Wouters has participated in the creation of new 'Jommeke' stories on a regular base since 1972. In addition to his dayjob as a professor in Plastic Arts at the Saint-Luc Academy in Ghent, he has cooperated on about 45 albums, of which 20 were done solely by him, others were with scripts by Jan Ruysbergh. Unlike the other assistants, Wouters worked on his 'Jommeke' stories from home and not in Nys' studios in the Antwerp Linkeroever area. Wouters also created the comic series 'De 4 Ka's' together with Karel Boumans for 't Kapoentje in 1976.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
