Comic art by Halil Yildirim

Halil İbrahim Yıldırım is a Turkish award-winning cartoonist and comic artist. Born in Ilgin, he started out drawing daily cartoons for the newspaper Yeni Asır. He subsequently contributed to several humor magazines from Istanbul, such as Çarşaf, Gırgır and Limon. Oguz Aral also hired him for two-page comic stories in Firfir (Firt).

He is also a talented portrait and caricature artist, and he has been a lecturer with the Department of Graphic illustration of the Dokuz Eylul University. Yildirim has received about ten national and international awards for his cartoons, and his work has been collected in over twenty cartoon albums. He worked in Izmír until 2007, and then moved over to Ankara to publish a daily cartoon in the Ankara local paper.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
