Yoshitomo Yoshimoto published his work in Japanese manga magazines for boys and teenagers. His stories often feature teenagers in neatly drawn graphics that suggest a detached, "cool" approach by its artist. A teenage boy once said of Yoshimoto's work: "It's incredible that a person in his mid-thirties can create manga that people my age can read and relate to and that has such an impact." In 1997, Yoshimoto wrote the short story 'Jr.', loosely based on 'Me and Miss Mandible' by Donald Barthelme. This story has been translated into English and was published in 'Secret Comics Japan', a collection of Japanese underground comics.
