Der Schmetterling (2/8/1931)
K. Th. Zelger was one of the main illustrators for Der Papagei, Der Schmetterling and Der Kiebitz, the children's magazines of the Verlag Steinsberg in Vienna in the 1920s and 1930s. Signing with a simple "Z", Zelger drew for the magazines between 1926 and at least 1938. From 1928 to 1936 he drew the continuing adventure comic series 'Peter und Willys Abenteur', that was remarkable for its fantasy elements and its use of speech balloons. Other series by Zelger were 'Rips und Raps samt Tips dem Taps' and 'Kapitän Pumpernickel und seine getreue Mannschaft' in Kiebitz and 'Professor Siebenklug und sein Assistent Gripps', 'Boxi, Strupps un Jonathan, das lustige Kleeblatt' and 'Nick und Nuck, die schlimmen Brüder' in Schmetterling.
Zelger was also present in the leftwing Vienna satirical magazine Götz von Berlichingen, where he continued the series 'Bilderbogen des kleinen Lebens' after the death of the artist Fritz Gareis from 1925 to 1934.
