Zheng Xinyao was born in Shanghai and he grew up in the city Suzhou, located in the Jiangsu province. At the age of 20 he published his first drawings. Especially his cartoon work was praised by the public and displayed in exhibitions all over the world. His talent made it possible for him to be a member of a handful associations and official state societies, such as the National Artist's Association and the Cartoon Department of NAA.
He published his first compilation, 'Zheng Xinyao's Cartoon Humor' in 1991, and in 1994, his 'Food for Thought' cartoon series won an Award for Excellence in the 8th National Art Work Exhibition. In 1998, he was chosen as one of the most prestigious artists in Shanghai.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
