Arkansas cartoonist Joseph Dawley began his career with the Dallas Morning News. When he moved to New Jersey he worked on the art staff for the Newark Evening News and additionally did art on Dell comic books. He did editorial cartoons as well as the daily 'Chief' strip for the McNaught Syndicate in the mid-1960s. However, Dawley is especially known as a Renaissance painter. He was diagnosed with Parkinson at the age of 39, but continues to paint from a nursing home.
