José Parrondo was born in Liège, and began to draw at an early age. He studied photography, and got in touch with a lot of artists and painters. Parrondo started out publishing in small fanzines, and his work was featured on several expositions. He eventually joined the publishing house Le Lézard, where he met Lewis Trondheim. Together with Trondheim, he began 'Papa Raconte' (or 'Allez Raconte'), a series of bedtime stories, drawn in a minimalistic style. Parrondo also contributes to Lapin (L'Association), Picoti, Toupie and Les Aventuriers (Milan). L'Association published Parrondo's books 'Olibirius', 'La Lune, la Bouche d'Egout et la Flague d'Eau' and 'Parrondo Poche'.
