Gerry Rasmussen is a Canadian cartoonist and the creator of the popular newspaper strip 'Betty' with Gary Delainey. Originally from Alberta, Canada, Rasmussen and Delainey met in high school during a local art competition. The both attended the Fine Arts program of the University of Alberta, and eventually teamed up to make comics strips. In 1985, their strip 'Bub Slug' was published in newspaper The Edmonton Journal. One of the characters in this feature, called Betty, caught the attention of United Feature Syndicate and the authors were asked to give the character a strip of her own. The strip about the witty middle-aged 'Betty' is syndicated to about 90 newspapers since 1991.
