Comic for Basim by Mohamed Tawfik

Mohamed Tawfik (also written as Tawfeek) is a comic book artist from Cairo, Egypt. He has worked as an illustrator in the Caïro area since 1997, and is affiliated with the animation and media house Basim Studio since 2006. Tawfik is one of the contributors to Basim's eponymous comics magazine, that is one of the leading children's publications in the Arab region since 1987. He is also one of the founding contributors to the quarterly comics magazine for adults Tok Tok, of which the first issue appeared in January 2011. Tawfik is also a regular contributor to the long-running Egyptian comics magazine Samir.

Apart from comics, Tawfik is also a notable political cartoonist. He has dared to criticize the Egyptian government in his work and condemned their injustices and executions of local citizens. He is also critical against the army. In January 2015 he drew a cartoon named 'Agendas', published on the online news site Mas Al-Arabiya, in which a governmental agenda is shown, with the page of 25 January torn out. On this day various demonstrations took place, which the local heads of state tried to deny.
