That's all, folks!
10 December 2012
Doomsday is coming; The Now or Never Days at Lambiek! Just forget Christmas, folks. Better surprise your family and friends -before Friday, 21 december- with a book that you think they should have read once in a lifetime. But hurry, time is running out!
Comicshop Lambiek will gladly help you. Underneath you will find a list with great artists, comics and graphic novels that we like. Of course, you can order the books from our webshop, but when you're in the neighbourhood, come by and we'll have a final drink on good old mother earth.
We'll start off with two giants in the American comicworld; Carl Barks and Will Eisner. Barks, a.k.a. The Duckman brought Disney's Donald Duck to a whole new level; he created Duckburg and characters like Uncle Scrooge, Gladstone Gander, Gyro Gearloose and the Beagle Boys. His stories are funny, exciting, full of speed and timeless. Will Eisner was a true pioneer of the American Comicbook. He created The Spirit in the late thirties and invented the graphic novel with his book 'A Contract with God' in 1978. Be sure to have some books of these guys on your shelter's coffeetable.
Another giant is of course Robert Crumb. He is the godfather of the Underground comix, dating back to the late sixties. He was also one of the first autobiographical artists and was a big influence on next generation alternative comic creators.
Other comicstrips and trade paper backs we'd like to mention are:
Watchmen by Alan Moore en Dave Gibbons, Sandman by Neil Gaiman and various artists, Sin City by Frank Miller, Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson, Preacher by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Peanuts by Charles Schulz, King of the Flies by Mezzo and Pirus and The Arrival by Shaun Tan.
Well folks, so far the suggestions. Of course, there are many, many more, but then again; time is running out... So long and good luck to all of you and maybe we'll meet in another universe.
