The Frenchman Alex Varenne (born 1939) has given us some of the finest images of the world of erotica and he is a singular master of black-and-white expression added with a very personal use of greytones.
Varenne's fame came from his erotic work published in Libération, where he created the female character 'Erma Jaguar'.
The artwork exhibited in Galerie Lambiek was a selection from his books; Les larmes du sexe, Erma Jaguar, Carre noir, Warschau, Corps a corps and Erotic opera. He also made some special pastel drawings of nudes for the exhibion.
The exposition invitation was very explicit but included an optional censorship sticker.
