Roberto Alcázar y Pedrín
Eduardo Vaņķ was the first artist of the famous Spanish detective series 'Roberto Alcazar y Pedrín'. Born in Bocairent, near Valencia, he studied fine arts, and began his career at the publishing house Valenciana in the early 1930s. There, he illustrated several novels, as well as comic book serials like 'Bob Tayler, el Justiciero' and 'Carlos Ray, Corazķn de Acero'.

Together with scriptwriter Juan Puerto, he began 'Roberto Alcazar y Pedrín' in 1940. The series became one of the most famous Spanish comics, and ran until 1976. The series was characterized by its action and the creative use of exclamations and sound effects. Also for Valenciana, Vaņķ created the character 'Milton El Corsario' in 1957. From the late 1950s, Vaņķ was assisted by his sons Vicente and Eduardo Vaņķ Ibarra.
