comic art by Daniel Ahlgren

Daniel Ahlgren is an acclaimed and versatile artist of autobiographical comics in Sweden. Born in Kristianstad and raised in Sölvesborg, Ahlgren published his own fanzine while at high school in the late 1980s. He also participated in other people's fanzines, such as David Liljemark's Fizzo, Gunnar Krantz' Gunnars fanzine and Ola Forssblad's Home Made Comics.

Ahlgren has been drawing comics about his own life and experiences since the early 1990s. His early efforts appeared in publications by Optimal Press and his first book collection was 1993's 'Ulv i fårakläder'. Other book collections followed, including 'Röja spettet' as well as contributions to anthologies like 'Allt för konsten'. He was one of the most notable artists of autobiographical comics at the time, together with Mats Jonsson and Gunnar Krantz.

He was present in Galago from the mid 1990s until the mid 2000s with serials like 'Ropa på Ulrik' and in the comics magazine MegaPyton with more lighthearted series like the superhero parody 'Pubertetspatrullen'. His serial 'Böggänget' also first appeared in MegaPyton before it was collected in book format. He has made more superhero parodies for magazines like Kapten Stofil since the mid 2000s, as well as the comedy serial 'Ove, den 34:årige hårdrockaren' in Close-Up Magazine. Ahlgren is also a regular in the Swedish MAD Magazine.

In later years, Ahlgren's work has featured more elements of social realism. Later book publications were issued by Bonnier Carlsen and Bakhåll and include 'The Girl Who Never Fick Nån Post', 'SH 3', 'Idiot Savant', 'För Fin För Denna Världen', 'Ask & Embla' and 'Ensamhetens fort'.
